GitHub Copilot shipped a major upgrade today. The additions close the gap with Cursor AI on every front that mattered.

The Upgrade

1. New AI Models: Claude 3.7 Sonnet, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, OpenAI o3-mini, and Gemini Flash 2.0 are now generally available in Copilot.
2. Image Upload: Copilot Chat accepts code screenshots, UI designs, and diagrams.
3. Agent Mode: Autonomous multi-file edits — Copilot gathers context across files, suggests changes, executes tasks, and iterates on errors. This was Cursor’s biggest draw.

Microsoft Locking Down Extensions

The C/C++ extension may be used only with Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio for Mac, Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, and successor Microsoft products and services to develop and test your applications.
