ChatGPT Came Within 30 Million Visits of X

Similarweb March 2025: ChatGPT at 4.55B visits, X at 4.58B. ChatGPT grew faster that month. Infrastructure, not a toy.

Similarweb’s March 2025 numbers put ChatGPT one slot under X:

RankSiteMonthly visits (B)MoM change
5X4.58+8.76%
6ChatGPT4.55+16.47%

Source: Similarweb via X.

ChatGPT’s month-over-month growth was the highest in the top ten that month. X was still ahead on absolute visits, barely. One month cannot establish a durable growth curve, but the near tie was already the more useful fact.

What I care about is not the rank badge. Everything else in the top ten is search, social, or Wikipedia. ChatGPT is a chat product sitting in that company. People are treating it like a default place to go, the way they treat Google — not like a demo they open twice.

I still use other tools for coding. Traffic like this is why “AI as a website” is a real distribution channel, not a side-project UI. The later shift toward AI browsers looks less surprising when the chat product already had this much direct traffic.
